Since September 2000 the School has been co-educational at Sixth Form level and since September 2008 has been co-educational throughout the School.

Birkenhead School prides itself on high academic standards, a full programme of extra-curricular activities, and a wide range of sporting activity.

Through this the School seeks to inculcate the key virtues of self-discipline, a sense of personal and social responsibility, and a positive outlook, so that pupils can look forward with confidence to making a constructive contribution to tomorrow's world, whatever role they eventually adopt.

Entry to the school is available via the Prep School, by open competitive examination at 11, by Common Entrance at 13, or by interview at Sixth Form level. Entry at other times can be considered upon consultation with the Headmaster.
