Foodie Heaven!
What an amazing success! Over 2,000 people attended the Hoylake Food Fair on 31 October, proving that there is massive demand locally for good quality, local produce. It came as no surprise, but it does beg the question; why should we just accept out of town and supermarket shopping as 'progress'? It's not cheaper and it's not better.
And there's a host of other advantages to buying local; healthier, lower carbon footprint, supporting local economies, supporting communities. Thanks to Hoylake Community Centre and Transition Town West Kirby and Hoylake for making this event happen. We'll keep you posted about the next one!

Planning Hoylake's Future
Have you noticed any students wandering around Hoylake recently? No they haven't got off at the wrong stop, its all part of a unique new research project. Liverpool John Moores University are working in partnership with Hoylake Village Life to study the future of Hoylake – its population, its economy, its planning policies, its future vision and future development opportunities. Around 25 students from Planning and Estate Management are focusing on Hoylake as part of their post-graduate studies. If you see any students out and about and they ask you any questions, then please help them. They might just find the answers to Hoylake's future!

A screaming success!
The kids had a ball at our Second Hallowe’en Scare Festival. It was a great night at Hoylake Community Centre, where kids dressed up in scary costumes, had their faces painted, and had a good old dance. The dancers from Anamal gave everyone a brilliant Hallowe’en dance performance too. A special thanks to everyone at Hoylake Community Centre for helping to make it a great night.

Gone with the wind...
Well, you live and learn. The Hoylake Village banners were installed on lamp posts along Market Street, and we thought they looked fantastic. But then a week or so later, they were torn from their fixings by the strongest winds of the year.
After almost a year working with the contractors to design the banners and specifiy fixings that would hold for a year in all weathers, we were ultimately let down after only ten days! Well, so be it... all part of the learning curve. We are currently talking to local businesses, the Council and the contractors to try and get this project back on the road. Literally.
Can you help us with projects like this? Do you want to have some fun along the way? Do you have other ideas for Hoylake? Email us

Wirral Open Studio Tour
On 12-14 November, Hoylake Village Life’s own artist, Micheline Robinson, hosted the Wirral Open Studio Tour. This event, which was part of the Independent Biennial programme, featured a trail of art exhibitions throughout Wirral, with artists’ homes and galleries, open to view their work. Hoylake featured heavily on the trail. Another massive success, with over 1000 people wandering through. Hoylake is definitely becoming a town for the arts. In fact we're also discussing a possible arts festival in Hoylake in July, the Wirral Festival of Firsts with poetry, music, film, art...

Christmas in Hoylake
As ever, Hoylake Village Life like to do things a little bit differently. This Christmas is no exception. We’ve taken on Christmas Lights this year and, as usual, we wanted to take things a bit further. So this year in Hoylake you’ll see the traditional colourful Christmas Lights attached to lamp posts, and we’ll be screening Pasolini’s classic 1964 film “The Gospel According to St Matthew” across Market Street onto the frontage of St Luke’s Church, throughout the Christmas period! We hope you like it, and would love to hear what you think.
But we’re not just stopping there. We’ve also been up and down the high street giving out 100 sets of fairy lights to businesses – look out for those twinkling shopfronts! Big thanks are due to Wirral Council, NOMA lites, Palisades Tartan, Rev Anthony Clowes and local businesses for helping to make this happen. This is just the start of some very ambitious ideas to bring more creative lighting ideas to Hoylake, so watch this space!
What do you think of the lights? Do you work with lighting? Got any ideas for Easter or other celebrations? Email us

More volunteers needed
We see lots of good things ahead for Hoylake. We see a thriving Market Street, full of shoppers and activity. We see things to do for all the family. We see events, festivals, parades, carnivals and family fun days. We see people coming from miles around to stroll along the Promenade and beach, watching the birds and admiring the views. We see major sports events coming back to Hoylake regularly. We see lots of fresh and vibrant businesses on Market Street, famous brand names, and local independent businesses. We see creativity everywhere, with lots of music, performance and art.
We see generations, young and old, mixing together and enjoying life. Is this a view you share for Hoylake? Hoylake Village Life believes it can happen, but we know it won’t happen overnight, and we know it definitely won’t happen if people don't get involved. It needs you and me, your neighbours and your families, to join in. Make things happen, make a difference, do it together, and do it now. Hoylake needs everyone to get involved, to create a bright and happy future.
So join us at Hoylake Village Life, Email us and say hello!
