Friends of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom is a group of local volunteers whose aim is to plant, care for and regularly replenish the flower displays in public places in Hoylake and Meols. The flower tubs on the railings at the King's Gap roundabout are a colourful welcome to Hoylake at the approach from West Kirby. Volunteers are always needed either to raise funds, e.g. by running the kiosk in the Parade Gardens, or to help with new planting in the spring and autumn.
Friends of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom is a registered charity and donatiions can be made at the collection points in Hoylake Library and several shops along Market Street. The fees to join the group are £5 for individuals or £7.50 for a family.
If you are not a member of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom, and would like to join, please contact our membership secretary Mrs Anne Lindley on the above number or collect a form from the library. By joining you won't be asked to do any work, unless you want to, we just need your money to keep Hoylake the best floral town on Wirral. If lots of people pay a little, we can easily raise the £2,500 to £3,000 needed. (If you joined last year, please don't forget to pay your subs this year: £5 per person or £7.50 for a family.) You can also help by putting your change in the collection boxes around town, i.e. the library, Post Office, Fahy's bakers, News mag, Meols chemist. It soon adds up, although it will be a pain having no bank to take the change to!! We do not get any financial help from the council whatsoever.
Best wishes to all.
June 2011: Our latest news The Seaside BedWe are proud and very excited to unveil our latest project, the Seaside Bed. It is between the two bowling greens in the Parade Gardens by the kiosk, which is open every Sunday afternoon from 2.00 p.m.-4.00 p.m. to help raise funds to pay for such projects.
We are thrilled with it and hope it will give pleasure for years to come.
Junior members We are delighted to welcome some junior members to our team of helpers: Callum Hardman (14), Megan Hardman (14) and Siobhan Coates (13) who, along with Danny and the rest of the team, worked so hard all day to plant the Seaside Bed. Please come along and see our Seaside Bed.
Best regards
Jan and the team
